Environmental Sustainability

EcoMatters Environment Trust are a not-for-profit organisation with a range of sustainability initiatives (including delivering Project Twin Streams in partnership with Auckland Council). Here are some great initiatives developed by EcoMatters that explore the other ways that you can support the health of our streams by learning about becoming more sustainable in your home, workplace and community.

EcoMatters Bike Hub

The EcoMatters Bike Hub has been established to enhance and support the community of West Auckland to experience the thrill and fun of cycling! It’s also great for your health, and is one of the most environmentally-friendly forms of transport. Come and visit us at 1 Olympic Place, New Lynn, Thurs – Sun 9am-1pm.

Love Zero Waste Trailer

The Love Zero Waste trailer is available for hire for your wedding, school fair, festival, community event, or any other time you want to feed a crowd, not a landfill. It includes cutlery & crockery, bins to sort your rubbish, and a Wash Against Waste station – but you choose which items you need. Contact our Waste Programme and Development Manager Sarah Jane Murray at or call her on (09) 826 4276 Ext: 141 to check availability and have a chat about your waste management plan.

Free Water Saving Advice

EcoMatters runs a FREE Water Advice service providing extremely helpful water conservation advice to anyone who would like it (kindly funded by WaterCare Services Ltd). You can either ask us for advice about a specific problem or you can sign up for a full Water Use Audit where we will visit you at home to check out all things water related. Email us at or give us a call at 09 826 4276 ext. 110.

You can drop off anytime between Monday to Friday 10am-4pm, or on Saturdays between 10am and 1pm, at our Visitor Centre on Olympic Place in New Lynn. There is a charge for some items that reflects the cost of handling these items sustainably so please check our webpage for details. Also note, unfortunately we cannot accept large whiteware items such as refrigerators and washing machines. For weird stuff like batteries, lightbulbs and polystyrene surfboards go to Recycling Weird Stuff page.
