Environmental Sustainability

EcoMatters Environment Trust are a not-for-profit organisation with a range of sustainability initiatives (including delivering Project Twin Streams in partnership with Auckland Council). Here are some great initiatives developed by EcoMatters that explore the other ways that you can support the health of our streams by learning about becoming more sustainable in your home, workplace and community.

Sustainable Living Centre

Come visit EcoMatters SLC visitors’ centre. It’s open to the public and provides information, displays, workshops and an eco library on all aspects of sustainability at home, work, school and in your community and that’s just the start. They even sell clean green bio-diesel for your diesel vehicle.  They are open 10am – 4pm, Monday – Friday and 10am – 1pm, Saturdays or by appointment.

Do Ya Bit

Free, expert advice on living a more eco-friendly life at home. This service covers household energy efficiency, water conservation, waste minimisation, food growing and transport options. Keep Waitakere Beautiful Trust 

Keep Waitakere Beautiful Trust promotes litter and waste reduction, tree planting, and civic pride activities.  They support individual volunteers and groups to take action at home, at work, at school, and in our community. They also run an Adopt-A-Spot programme, where volunteers can nominate a public area to keep clear of rubbish.  This can be a great way to clear away rubbish.
WeedFree Trust

WeedFree Trust works with a wide range of individuals and groups to foster awareness of the threats posed by invasive weeds to our native ecosystems.
