Pest control and monitoring are just a couple of the many steps we can take to ensure our native plants and wildlife flourish.

The survival of whole ecosystems is affected by possums so many landowners, including Auckland Council commits resources to possum control at priority sites to ensure long term survival of species and the ecosystems that support them.

Project Twin Streams has installed bait stations and traps along both Henderson Creek and Swanson streams this autumn. Swanson was installed first and catches were slow to start with, only 5 possums were caught in the first check. This number steadily increased and the final catch number to date is 58 possums. Several rats were also caught in the traps. Henderson is now complete and 68 possums have been caught.

Apart from these official efforts you can also help control possums yourself in your area – visit DOC  for more information.
